A Banfield Optimum Wellness Plan is not insurance. It is a 12-month service contract with the clinic: you pay monthly, the plan covers a listed set of services at the clinic, and cancelling early runs through a settlement formula Banfield itself has stated in writing, over and over, in its responses to complaints. Banfield's own site says plans start at $26.95 a month and can go upwards of $100 a month, with an average of about $52 a month — about $624 a year. Prices vary by clinic and region: the same plan has been documented at $33.95 a month in the Midwest and East and $42.95 on the West Coast. Cancelling early, Banfield's own stated method is the lesser of two numbers: (1) the retail value of the services and discounts your pet already received, minus the payments you have made, or (2) the monthly payments left to the end of the 12-month term. There is no flat cancellation fee — anyone who quotes you one is guessing. Which of the two numbers is smaller decides whether cancelling now, paying to the end of the term, or simply stopping the renewal is your cheapest way out.
Cancelling the plan and stopping the renewal are different actions, done in different places. Cancelling runs through the Wellness Plan team at 888-649-2716. Turning off the auto-renewal is done in your MyBanfield account. People who mix the two up get renewed — and a renewed plan is a new 12-month term with a new settlement.
